Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Father Clarifies After India U19 Batter Misses Class 10 Board Exam

The father of India Under-19 cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has addressed the situation after the youngster missed his Class 10 board examination due to national team commitments.

Vaibhav, who has been part of India’s U19 setup in recent assignments, was unavailable for one of his board papers as it coincided with the team’s schedule. The development had triggered discussions locally, with questions raised over how academic responsibilities were handled alongside international duty.

Speaking to regional media, his father said the decision was not taken lightly and followed discussions with school authorities. He stated that the family had informed the school well in advance about Vaibhav’s selection and tour schedule. However, with board examination dates fixed and the cricket itinerary already confirmed, there was no workable alternative.

He added that representing India at any level remains a rare opportunity and the family believed it was important for Vaibhav to honour that commitment. At the same time, he emphasised that education has not been sidelined and that arrangements are being explored for the missed paper as per board regulations.

Vaibhav has been among the consistent performers in India’s youth circuit over the past year. His performances in domestic age-group tournaments earned him a call-up to the national U19 side, where he has continued to feature regularly. The team’s schedule, particularly during international tours, often overlaps with academic calendars, leaving limited flexibility for student-athletes.

The issue highlights a broader challenge faced by young cricketers in India’s age-group system. With domestic and international assignments spread across the academic year, clashes with examination schedules are not uncommon. While some educational boards provide special consideration for national representation, procedures vary depending on regulations.

So far, there has been no official statement from the school board regarding the specific arrangements in Vaibhav’s case. However, sources indicate that provisions exist for students who miss examinations due to recognised national duties, subject to approval and documentation.

India U19 are currently in the middle of a structured preparation phase ahead of upcoming international fixtures later this year. Vaibhav remains part of the core group being monitored by selectors as the pathway towards the next Under-19 cycle continues.

For now, the family maintains that both cricket and academics will move forward together, with clarity expected once the board outlines the formal process for the missed examination.
